INDIAN Muslims and other Minorities feel that they have been marginalized in almost all spheres of life in the past six decades. Major General Inayat Habib Ullah and Jawaharlal Nehru, both riding horses, stare down from a photographer on the walls of the Central Information Commission office in Delhi as Habib Ullah says; “I am not your typical Muslim. I move in circles where stereo typing and Islam phobia rarely happens. At a personal level, I am not a victim. But I see a lot of stereo typing happening around now days in the country. For many Muslims of India, their religion has become a badge of suspicion. Having succeeded in creating a divide among the two communities, the Hindu and Muslims, the saffron clan.
VHP, RSS, BAJRANG DAL and to top it all BJP , is now pursuing fast their next agenda, creating chaos and mayhem with their violent attacks on CHRISTIANS AND DALITS IN ORISSA ,MADHYA PARDESH AND KERNATKA . Saberipata, a cluster of 25 panos homes, not far from phulbani; entirely Christian forcefully converted by Sangh Privar extremists who torched churches and homes.
The villagers say they didn’t want to be forced to tonsure their heads, drink cow urine, contribute a goat for sacrifice and insult the Bible. Though we are forcefully reconverted to Hinduism by Sang Parivar activists still we all believe Christianity is good.
Invisible line divides Karla, called ‘’ KARISAKULM’’ and thousands of others like it across India, separating the Dalits- those beneath Hinduism’s rigid caste hierarchy from the upper- castes (untouchables). One evening a Dalit ambled over to the upper-caste side to watch the evening news on TV, while he sat there, four men from the Thevar caste pinned him to the dirt while a fifth man pulled out a sword and butchered him because of crossing the ’’Karisakulm’’ line. The condition of the Dalits in India is so bad that the concern for most is how to gain minimum self –respect and security, what they want today is to be able to live without being humiliated and harassed. In Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Andhara Pradesh, caste conflict is rife and it is spreading to other states such as Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and in the capital, New Delhi.
Replying to a question, what it means to be a Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jains in India, Kirti Jain a professor at the National School 0f Drama, New Delhi says today, I find myself advising my Muslim husband not to argue with his friends of 30 years over the hounding of M.F. Hussein, over the Gujarat pogrom, over the Sikh and Dalit killings. My husband is a Muslim and when we got married, we did not visualize any cause for anxiety rooted in religion. Today, when my daughter has to go to the police station to report her lost license or the car has been towed away, I do not allow my husband to go to the police station. It is fact that all is not well in this erstwhile secular country of ours.
Samina Mishra documentary film maker married to a Hindu says, how one speak of the diversity of being Indian when Diwali is celebrated in schools, colleges, universities, streets and markets and Eid just in Muslim homes? Nigar Ata ullah Associate Editor, Islamic Voice, Bangalore, says terror is not just blasts. It is also the fear created in the minds of young Muslims by the state. For Muslims, today their religion has become a badge of suspicion in India.
Shabana Azmi, famous Indian film actress and former member of the Rajya Sabha’s statement regarding the problems faced by Mumbai’s Muslims in buying or renting accommodations in the Mumbai city’s Cooperative Housing Societies, kicked up a storm. Actress- turned social activist spoke out in a TV program. “ If Kirti jain feels unsecured with her Muslim husband after 30 years long marriage, if Shabana Azmi and her famous poet husband Jawaid Akhtar cannot find a house in the most cosmopolitan city of India, one can imagine what must be happening to the ordinary Muslims in India. While the leading Bollywood celebrities, belonging to Muslim community are being grilled by Hindu extremists and militant organizations. Latest wave of blitz of RSS and MNS against the Khans of Bollywood are not simply reaction of some Hindu extremists outfits, it is the policy of keeping Indian Muslim celebrities to be cut down to the sizes. Fixing of the “Khans of Bollywood “ by fixing them in one case or the other and then publicizing these cases even if it was the killing of a bird by Saif Ali Khan or deer by Salman Khan.
Hollywood actresses and former member of the Indian Rajya Sabha responded her critics ,by writing in newspapers that she and her husband were denied houses of their choice twice on the ground of being Muslims. The building she chose to buy a flat in was occupied by a film star and had non-vegetarian families living in, “ I am being called ungrateful, wretched and even a liar. But these are the same people who applauded me and called a hero when I took on Imam Bukhari of the Jamia Masjid Delhi. She said, the founding fathers of India who framed the Indian Constitution drew the perimeters of a harmonious Indian society of the future through provision which guaranteed “specified property rights for all . Ahmed and Halima Qazi family is growing and need a bigger house. They love the middle class cosmopolitan locality they live in, but they have no choice but to say NO.
None in Mumbai is willing to sell rent them a flat in the neighborhood because of their religion—-they are Muslim.
Saif Ali Khan the famous Bollywood actor was not allowed to buy a house of his own choice, he admitted that there are some localities and building societies that won’t sell real estate to a Muslim. Saif Ali Khan, chose to buy a house of his own choice from a Muslim builder to avoid complications.
It does not matter to brokers in the Mumbai area that the family has been living there for ages, Nor the fact that they are no different from the scores of Hindu and Catholic families in this upwardly mobile area and are much a part of the Mumbai’s cosmopolitan culture of parties, gyms, hangout places, coffee shops etc. When brokers come to know that we are Muslims, they immediately tell us no flats are available, says Amir Ali famous Indian, TV actor.
Amir Ali, who clearly does not confirm to the image of a stereo type Muslim, moved to the Bombay High Court after failing to find a house of his choice in the Andheri area of Mumbai. After we agreed on the terms the broker said the owner no longer wanted to sell the place to me because I am a Muslim. Ali said while preparing for his legal battle. Ali lost after the Bombay High Court ruled out that no one could be forced to sell or rent out a flat However, the court said should any one be willing to sell or rent out a flat to Amir Ali, then he was free to move the Maharashtra Registrar of Cooperative Societies for redress if the housing society prevented him from buying the property.
The Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act prohibits discrimination against people on the basis of caste, creed, religion or language. But legal loopholes in the Act, some of which have been upheld by the Indian Supreme Court, ensure that members of certain sections of society are not able to buy homes in a locality of their choice.
Sophie Chaudhry the svelte VJ, who hit big time on Music TV, said she was denied the chance to buy a house because of her faith.
Everything goes well until the time. I reveal my Muslim lineage.
Zeenat Aman, the heartthrob of the 1970s said, she had been looking for flat more than a year and several brokers had refused to sell her a flat.
Last year, when the real estate boom was at his peak in Mumbai a sting operation conducted by an International Television Channel in Mumbai showed representative of builders refusing to give a house to reporters who were posing as a Muslim couple.
Despite its reputation as India’s most liberal city, segregation on the basis of religion is one of the Mumbai’s open secrets. Much of the city is divided into enclaves dominated by one community or the other.
A comment frequently heard in India these days is that the partition in India in 1947 meant that Muslims who remained in India had chosen to become second class citizens and across the spectrum-from Habib Ullah to Shabana Azmi-Indian Muslims / Christians are experiencing an identity crises, with a bonus of 2nd class citizen.
THAT IS REAL FACE OF SECULARISM IN INDIA, ALWAYS PREACHES SECULAR STATE. ALL MUST KNOW, THEIR RELIGON AND BELEIFS ARE BASED UPON CASTES SYSTEMS STRICTLY .BRUHAMAN , SHODER ARE LIVE EXAMPLES .TO LIVE IN INDIA PEACEFULLY ,ONE MUST BE HINDU – SO “HINDU FIRST”AND THEN INDIAN , IS REAL FACE OF THIS SECULAR COUNTRY

Wow!, this was a top quality post. In theory I’d like to write like this too – taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I keep putting it off and never seem to get something done
